I started on a new job end-April. Same company, different job description.

I am learning a lot during my first couple of weeks in this job, taking in functional skills, improving my communication skills, learning how to condense my thoughts. But I have also came up with very interesting insights about people, cultures, my organization and the Filipino culture.

Ad Agencies:

On my first week on the job boss expressed that she is quite ticked with this one of our Ad Agency Account Executive. My boss said the AE couldn't get instructions properly and she doesn't update us much on the progress of certain elements of our project. But when I see my boss interfacing with this AE, she wasn't screaming or raising her tone. Although she tries hard to emphasize her concerns to the AE.My boss is actually at the brink of asking our Account Director for another AE.

After a few weeks of working with this AE...I conclude that SHE IS SLOW. Plus, when you raise your voice to her, she raises her voice back. And she forgets things too.

So a few days ago I told her we needed to send some artworks to a certain country pronto. She said, Okay I'll check it out. Will get back to you on timing. Of course she would never get back to me and I would have to follow it up with her.

Because those countries needed the artworks right away and we didn't have time to mail CDs, I asked her to upload it to a secure site and give me access codes which I can communicate to the country brand managers. The agreed timeline was for them to upload it last night because the countries needed to download this morning.

Well the AE got sick. I asked for updates from her and who I could call to coordinate, cause I didn't receive any ftp link. When I couldn't reach her, I reached another AE from the same ad agency but was not working on the project. He agreed to help me.

When I finally reached the original AE, I informed her of what happened. She said she'll call their office and try to find a way to have it sent immediately. I asked her what time she could get back to me she said she didn't know. I told her that I needed to know so I could advise the other countries who were waiting for it. She said she'll check with their office after our phone call and then call me back. I told her I needed for her to give a specific time when she will call me back. She raised her voice also and she doesn't know when it can be fixed.

I told her they need to find a way because it has long been delayed. I asked her to call her office and then call me back. She agreed to do so. I asked her what time she'll call me back or what time should I expect her call. This time my voice was starting to get irritated. She said she can't give me a time and then proceeded on screaming blah blahs. I told her: How hard is it to give me time? It's 1:54 pm, should I expect your call by 2:10? I was trying to say something and she kept on interrupting. I made a loud scream and told her: LET ME FINISH.

Then I said: You need to tell me when you will call me back. Because when you say you'll call me right back, the time span is between 1 minute after this phone call up to infinity. You need to tell me when you can get back to me with a response: negative or positive. So I don't concern myself waiting for it. If you tell me you'll call at 2:15, I won't be worrying myself before then. If by 2:20 I don't get a call, I'll worry. Call me at 2:15 and tell me what the anser is, even if the answer is I'll get the file 2 hours from now. At least, I am updated. Is that too hard to do?

Now I don't want to be tagged as a terror client. I know she's sick. But when you know you have a deliverable, the least you could do is: (1) Inform your client/boss that you are sick (2) Identify the point person to coordinate with for this time that you are sick (3) Make sure the point person knows what to do

The thing is, sick or not, di talaga siya nag-uupdate. I won't tell her boss I want her off my account. If I have a problem with her, I'll tell it to her face. I don't know if that's better than being nice and patient pero nagrerequest ka na palang patalsikin siya.

Pakitang Tao

I realized for the most part ganyan tayong Pinoy. Just check out Nograles' "thru the initiative" road projects. First part lang ng road ang may concrete. Hanggang sa pwede lang makita sa picture.

Here, people would move heaven and earth to impress a boss from Corporate or Group office. Kahit na puyat araw-araw. Kahit na pigang-piga na ang ad agency.

When I joined the telecon where Singapore was the lead. She told her agency, it's okay if they cannot meet the deadline for as long as they did it right. To some extent, I agree with her.

Kakapagod.
